Admission process

How and when do I apply to a Danish university?

Non-EU applicants apply through optagelse.dk or the university portal by 15 January for the September intake, and must pay tuition before the residence permit is granted.

  1. 1

Apply by the 15 January non-EU deadline

Danish universities close non-EU applications on 15 January even though EU applicants have until March.

  2. 2

    Document your subject prerequisites

Danish admission checks specific A/B-level equivalents in maths, physics and chemistry. Missing a level means a supplementary course before entry.

  3. 3

    Meet the English requirement

English B or IELTS 6.5 is standard; Master's may need a documented match between your Bachelor's courses and the programme.

  4. 4

Accept and pay the first instalment

Tuition is DKK 45,000โ€“120,000 a year. The first instalment is usually due before the study permit application can proceed.

  5. 5

Apply for the ST1 study permit

Apply through SIRI showing tuition paid and DKK 6,800 per month for living costs; processing takes up to 60 days.

What quietly costs students an intake in Denmark

  • Using the EU deadline as your planning date.
  • Ignoring subject-level prerequisites and receiving a conditional rejection.
