Admission process

How does admission work in Spain for non-EU students?

Bachelor's applicants go through UNEDasiss or the regional pre-registration office and usually sit the PCE exams; Master's applicants apply directly to the university.

  1. 1

Homologate or accredit your school qualification

For a Bachelor's you either homologate your Class 12 through the Ministry of Education or use UNEDasiss accreditation, which is faster and covers most public universities.

  2. 2

Sit the PCE subject exams if needed

Competitive degrees — medicine, engineering, psychology — rank by an admission grade that combines your school marks with PCE subject exams taken in May or June.

  3. 3

    Pre-register through the regional office

Each autonomous community (Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia) runs its own pre-registration with a preference list. Catalonia uses the Oficina d'Accés a la Universitat.

  4. 4

    Master's applicants apply directly

Master's admission is university by university, typically January–June, with Spanish B2 for Spanish-taught and IELTS 6.5 for English-taught programmes.

  5. 5

Enrol and apply for the student visa

With the acceptance letter, apply for the Type D visa showing IPREM-linked funds, then request the TIE card within 30 days of arrival.

What quietly costs students an intake in Spain

  • Assuming Spanish-taught medicine is open without PCE exams and a B2 certificate.
  • Missing the single regional pre-registration window — there is rarely a second round for non-EU seats.
