Admission process

How do you actually apply to a European university?

There is no single European application. Some countries route everything through one central body โ€” Campus France, Universitaly, Studielink, UCAS โ€” while Germany splits it between uni-assist, APS and direct portals. Find your country, then follow the numbered sequence on its hub.

Deadlines and portal rules are set by ministries and central application bodies and change each cycle. Each country hub lists the official source we checked and when.

Germany

What is the actual order of steps to get admission in Germany?

Check that your degree is recognised on anabin, get the APS certificate, then apply through uni-assist or the university portal for a winter (October) or summer (April) intake.

  • 1. Check recognition on anabin
  • 2. Get the APS certificate
  • 3. Take language and aptitude tests

France

How do I apply to a French university from India?

Almost every application goes through Campus France ร‰tudes en France first โ€” you build one file there, get interviewed, and only then are your university choices forwarded.

  • 1. Create your ร‰tudes en France file
  • 2. Choose up to seven programmes
  • 3. Pass the Campus France interview

Italy

What is the Italian admission and pre-enrolment process?

You apply to the university, then complete Universitaly pre-enrolment with the Italian embassy, and get a Declaration of Value or CIMEA statement for your Indian degree.

  • 1. Apply on the university portal
  • 2. Get your qualification recognised
  • 3. Pre-enrol on Universitaly

Spain

How does admission work in Spain for non-EU students?

Bachelor's applicants go through UNEDasiss or the regional pre-registration office and usually sit the PCE exams; Master's applicants apply directly to the university.

  • 1. Homologate or accredit your school qualification
  • 2. Sit the PCE subject exams if needed
  • 3. Pre-register through the regional office

Poland

What do Polish universities ask for at admission?

Direct application to each university with an apostilled Class 12 or Bachelor's certificate, an English certificate, and in many cases a short online interview.

  • 2. Apostille and translate your documents
  • 3. Prove English at B2

  • 3. Meet the academic and maths requirements

Ireland

Do I apply through CAO or directly in Ireland?

Non-EU Bachelor's applicants apply directly to the university international office, not through CAO; Master's applicants also apply directly, on a rolling basis.

  • 2. Apply early โ€” rolling admission fills up
  • 3. Meet the grade and English thresholds

United Kingdom

What is the UCAS and CAS sequence for the UK?

Bachelor's applications go through UCAS with a January deadline; Master's applications go directly to universities, and both end with a CAS number before the visa.

  • 2. Master's: apply directly, early
  • 3. Prepare the personal statement and references

Austria

How strict is Austrian admission for Indian applicants?

Austria checks that your qualification would admit you to a university in your home country, then applies programme-specific tests โ€” the Zulassung process is slow, so apply months early.

  • 2. Apply for admission (Zulassung) early
  • 3. Prepare for supplementary exams

How and when do I apply to a Danish university?

  • 2. Document your subject prerequisites
  • 3. Meet the English requirement

Belgium

What changes between Flemish and French-speaking Belgium?

Admission is university by university, and the region decides the language, the equivalence procedure and the deadline โ€” Flanders and Wallonia are effectively two systems.

  • 1. Pick your region first
  • 2. Apply for equivalence of your diploma
  • 3. Apply to the university

Portugal

How do international students get admitted in Portugal?

Non-EU students apply under the Estatuto do Estudante Internacional directly to each university, usually in two or three rounds between March and July.

  • 1. Apply under the international student statute
  • 2. Check the subject entry exams
  • 3. Prove language level
