Admission process

How strict is Austrian admission for Indian applicants?

Austria checks that your qualification would admit you to a university in your home country, then applies programme-specific tests — the Zulassung process is slow, so apply months early.

  1. 1

    Check general university entrance qualification

Austrian universities require that your Class 12 plus, in most cases, one or two years of Indian university study, would qualify you for the same subject at home.

  2. 2

    Apply for admission (Zulassung) early

Deadlines are typically 5 September for winter and 5 February for summer, but the assessment takes weeks — apply as soon as the portal opens.

  3. 3

    Prepare for supplementary exams

If your qualification is partially recognised, you may be assigned Ergänzungsprüfungen — usually German language, sometimes maths or Latin — before full admission.

  4. 4

Sit programme entrance tests where required

Medicine uses MedAT (German-language), and TU Wien and Vienna's psychology and business programmes run their own selection rounds.

  5. 5

Pay the fee and apply for the residence permit

Non-EU tuition is €726.72 per semester plus the ÖH fee. Apply for the student residence permit at the Austrian mission with proof of roughly €13,000 for the year.

What quietly costs students an intake in Austria

  • Assuming Class 12 alone is enough for direct Bachelor's admission.
  • Applying for MedAT without German — the test is not offered in English.
