Admission process

Do I apply through CAO or directly in Ireland?

Non-EU Bachelor's applicants apply directly to the university international office, not through CAO; Master's applicants also apply directly, on a rolling basis.

  1. 1

    Apply directly to each university

Trinity, UCD, UCC and the technological universities take non-EU applications through their own portals from around October for September entry.

  2. 2

Apply early — rolling admission fills up

Offers are issued as applications arrive. Popular computing and business Master's close by February or March even though the stated deadline is later.

  3. 3

Meet the grade and English thresholds

    A first-class or high second-class Bachelor's for competitive Master's, IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0.

  4. 4

    Accept and pay the deposit

A deposit of typically €3,000–€6,000 secures the seat and triggers the acceptance letter you need for the visa.

  5. 5

Apply online for the study visa

Show fees paid, €10,000 of maintenance funds and private medical insurance. Apply at least eight weeks before travel.

What quietly costs students an intake in Ireland

  • Using CAO as a non-EU applicant and losing months.
  • Waiting for a scholarship result before paying the deposit and losing the seat.
