Admission guide
How Indian students get into medicine in Spain
Spanish public medicine is Spanish-taught and allocated on a converted Class 12 score plus the PCE/EBAU-para-extranjeros exams. Private faculties admit more non-EU students but charge accordingly.
Entrance test
PCE (Pruebas de Competencias Específicas) via UNEDasiss
Non-EU applicants convert their Class 12 through UNEDasiss and sit PCE subject exams — usually biology, chemistry and maths — whose marks raise the admission score used in faculty rankings.
Language of instruction
Spanish. B2 minimum for entry, C1 for clinical years.
Who is eligible
- Class 12 accredited through UNEDasiss
- PCE subject results in relevant sciences
- Spanish at B2 (DELE/SIELE)
- NEET qualification for the Indian licence route
Application sequence
- 01
Dec–Feb: UNEDasiss accreditation
Register and submit legalised Class 12 documents; this must finish before PCE registration.
- 02
Mar–Apr: register for PCE
Choose subjects that weight highest for medicine at your target faculties.
- 03
May–Jun: sit PCE
Exams are held in Spain and at selected international centres, in Spanish.
- 04
Jun–Jul: preinscripción and ranking
Apply to the regional preinscripción system; medicine cut-offs are among the highest in Spain.
- 05
Jul–Sep: student visa
Apply with the admission letter, proof of funds, insurance and apostilled documents; register for the TIE after arrival.
Documents to prepare
- Apostilled and translated Class 10 and 12 certificates
- UNEDasiss accreditation report
- PCE score report
- Spanish language certificate
- Proof of funds and health insurance for the visa
What it costs (estimate)
Public medicine costs roughly €1,500–€5,000 a year for non-EU students depending on the region; private faculties run €15,000–€25,000. Living costs €750–€1,100 a month.
Licensing and practising
The Grado en Medicina plus the MIR route leads to Spanish specialist practice. For India, verify the internship arrangement before enrolling, then clear FMGE/NExT.
Where applications go wrong
- Starting PCE registration before UNEDasiss accreditation is complete
- Choosing PCE subjects that carry low weight for medicine
- Assuming an English-taught public medicine track exists
True for every European medical route
- NEET qualification is required if you ever intend to practise in India — the score does not decide European admission, but without it your Indian licence route is closed.
- Medical degrees in Europe are 5.5–6 years and are legally titled MD/MBChB/Laurea Magistrale; India recognises them as equivalent to MBBS when the course is at least 54 months plus a 12-month internship in the same country.
- Clinical years are taught in the local language almost everywhere, even on English-track programmes. Plan for B1–B2 in the local language by year three.
- Transfers between European medical schools mid-course are rare and usually cost a year. Choose the country you can finish in.
